The Rockridge Community Planning Council embarked upon the Community Vision planning process to engage and activate residents to collaboratively develop a plan for our neighborhood’s future. A similar plan in 1990 initiated the development of the Rockridge Library and Frog Park.
There is still lots of time to get involved, share your ideas, and/or help create a plan for actualizing these ideas to improve the community and spaces we love. Here’s what we’ve accomplished to date and a preview of what’s to come:
February 10: Launch Meeting
Presented a sketch of our process and proposed categories to include in the plan; solicited feedback.
Determined Five Focus Areas:
1) Mobility
2) Sustainability and Resilience
3) Housing
4) Commercial and Community Use
5) Open Space and Green Infrastructure
March 20: Pop-Ups and Community Listening Session
Neighbors came together to brainstorm ideas on all of the five Focus Areas.
April 27: What Ideas Should We Move Forward With?
All feedback to date will be reviewed to identify key themes, organize ideas by project type, and determine what other partners are
needed to bring to the table.
May 22: Deep Dive on Key Themes
Within each focus area, neighbors will be asked to choose one of the five Focus Areas to attend a strategy session.
June: Community Dialogue
Continue the conversation to discuss what have we learned thus far.
Summer
Create a plan of action from community input; RCPC Board will vote to approve the final plan.
Early Fall
RCPC’s 40th anniversary of its non-profit incorporation, and presentation of the official plan to the public.
Thank you to everyone who has participated. It’s not too late to get involved. Email chair@rockridge.org with questions or ideas.
April 2025: Listening Sessions and Pop-ups Inform Rockridge Community Vision Plan
Let the RCPC board know your priorities – take the Survey, if you haven’t been able to attend a meeting! For more information on the CVP, see these posts.
During the month of March, hundreds of residents weighed into the RCPC Community Vision Plan (CVP) process. First, we held three pop-ups around the neighborhood guided by community engagement experts and Rockridge residents James Rojas and John Kamp. They produced a map of Rockridge and provided participants with tactile materials to envision what they wanted to see in
the neighborhood — using their hands and imaginations. These well-attended events were hosted in multiple locations where residents regularly gather — the Rockridge Library, Safeway Plaza, and the Farmers Market.
On March 20, RCPC held its CVP “Listening Session” at Claremont Middle School, and over 125 residents attended. We started with an update on what we’ve learned from the community thus far and then broke into small groups for brainstorming discussions on the five key focus areas: Mobility, Open Space / Green Infrastructure, Sustainability / Resilience, Commercial / Community Uses, and Housing. You can see resounding themes and interesting ideas from the word cloud image displayed.
Please join us on April 27 at 4pm for coffee and a strategy workshop at the College Avenue Presbyterian Church, 2727 College Avenue. Participants will be invited to evaluate the ideas generated from the meetings, pop-ups, and surveys and provide feedback on which to prioritize. “I highly recommend getting engaged in this plan. Amidst everything going on this wild world, making a difference locally is very fulfilling,” says Jana Good, new RCPC Board Member and Manila Ave resident.
To attend the meeting, RSVP to Chair@rockridge.org. If you are unable to attend any of our meetings but have ideas to share, please submit them through our survey.
