Oakland Heritage Alliance Names Preservation Honorees

The Oakland Heritage Alliance (OHA) has announced this year's Partners in Preservation who will be feted at the organization's annual membership meeting February 20, beginning at 7 p.m. at the historic Rockridge Masonic Hall, 5449 College Avenue. The public is invited.

This year's event includes local recognition for Residential Rehabilitation at 5806 Ross Street, Steve Rynerson, owner.

New Program Helps Homeowners: "Brace + Bolt" for Earthquakes

To help Bay Area homeowners protect their largest investment and loved ones, the California Residential Mitigation Program (CRMP) - a joint venture created by California Earthquake Authority and the California Governor"s Office of Emergency Services - is introducing a pilot retrofit program called Earthquake Brace + Bolt that would provide rebates for work to strengthen foundations of homes in the Rockridge and Temescal communities.

A nonprofit organization of individual volunteers, members pick up food at markets, bakeries, and restaurants - and from occasional parties and social events - for delivery to shelters, churches and other community resources serving needy folks.

Before the City Council holds formal budget hearings to deliberate the budget, a series of Budget Town Hall Meetings, hosted in partnership with City Councilmembers, will be held to gather input from Oakland residents.

Shortly after Susan Shawl's informal pothole survey was published in the March issue of The Rockridge News, many of the pavement failures she documented were filled and paved, including the one on Claremont Avenue that measured a whopping 3 feet by 4 feet by 3 inches deep.
