Rockridge Talking: Wish Lists & Ideas Shared at June Town Hall Meeting

Oakland City Planning Director Rachel Flynn drew a huge crowd at the June RCPC Town Hall, where she provided a richly informative overview of Oakland's approach to urban planning, how Rockridge fits into that vision, and what kinds of things we can do to further enhance our neighborhood. RCPC board member Virginia Hamilton then led the 70-plus attendees in an exchange of ideas including expressions of local concerns as well as a wide range of possible solutions.

Land Use Report: College Ave. Safeway, Rockridge Center Rebuild, Off-Street Parking Requirements

College Avenue Safeway Project, College and Claremont Avenues: This project, modified extensively by a settlement agreement between Safeway and community groups in Rockridge and Elmwood, is moving toward closing and demolition of the current store this summer. (If you see people in white "hazmat" suits on the site, they're exploring to ensure that hazardous or toxic materials such as asbestos or PCBs are identified for safe disposal.) Construction of the new store and shopping building should begin late this year, and is expected to take approximately a year.

Special Land Use Committee meeting - CN-1 Zoning revisions study group

Special joint meeting of RCPC Land Use Committee with representatives of community groups in other CN-1 areas of Oakland.  Meeting Place is the Park Blvd. Presbyterian Church, 4101 Park Boulevard. 

Agenda will be follow-up to the May meeting to discuss potential changes to improve the operation of CN-1 zoning.  Primary topic - how to provide for extinguishing a use permit when a use has been terminated or replaced by a different use.
