Frog Park Amenity Update & Earth Day Party Preview

Monday, March 9, 2015

Many people have been asking when the Frog Park enhancements will be ready.

While we received strong support for the enhancements, we are adjusting the design to address concerns raised by neighbors close to the park.

A goal of the enhancements is to provide additional play opportunities for toddlers and disabled children, especially via use of a swing and the spinner. Parents with mobility challenges will find the enhancements make the park more accessible.

Soundwall Study Supporters Appeal City Decision

Saturday, April 5, 2014

The Rockridge Ad-hoc Sound Wall Committee, which collected and submitted more than 300 signatures favoring sound wall studies, has appealed the rejection of the petitions by the city's Transportation Services Division. Among other concerns, the appeal points out that the petition process was not like those for permit parking or speed humps. Both of those require signatures of residents, not property owners.

Farewell Rockridge Kids

Saturday, January 11, 2014

The end of December saw the closure of one of the local businesses I've most treasured over the years, Rockridge Kids. The store and the wonderful owner, Nishan Shepherd, will be greatly missed.

I remember being at Rockridge Kids for the grand opening in 1993 with my then 3-year-old daughter, supporting Nishan and the importance of locally owned retail stores on College Avenue. Nishan was the manager of the College Avenue branch of Such A Business for about 10 years before that business closed, and he opened Rockridge Kids shortly after.

A Stellar Store for Women

Friday, April 5, 2013

The open, clean lines of the Stella Carakasi store echo the smooth and wearable styles of the clothing and accessories. Every woman I saw who entered the store was drawn to the flowing lines and interesting cut of the varied separates in organic fabrics and luscious colors.
