  • Join us at the October RCPC Town Hall meeting when Oakland School Board  President Jody London reports on the school district’s strategic plan for “ Community Schools , Thriving Students”.

    Hear Jody London explain what the plan would mean for area schools and provide community feedback. Learn about local schools from their principals and/or parent leaders.

Pros and Cons: LWV and RCPC Present a Special Election Forum

Agenda:

  • Early in October, Oakland voters will receive a ballot for the city of Oakland Special Vote by Mail Election. The ballot will include information about the three measures on the ballot.

  • To help Rockridge residents be as informed as possible, RCPC is sponsoring an election forum to be presented Thursday, October 2 7, 7: 3 0 – 9 p. m . at the Rockridge Branch Library by the League of Women Voters of Oakland (LWVO).

  • LWV will conduct an impartial pros and cons review of the ballot measures to be voted upon in the election
    on November 15. As described on the city's web site, the measures are:
    • Measure H: Shall the Oakland City Charter be amended to return the City Attorney to an appointed position?
    • Measure I: Shall the City of Oakland establish a five year temporary fiscal emergency parcel tax to preserve essential city services, including fire, police services, and police technology, youth violence prevention, library, services, parks and recreation, and street repair, by establishing an $80 parcel tax for single-family homes and specified amounts for multi-family and commercial properties with an exemption for low-income households?
    • Measure J: shall the charter be amended to allow the City of Oakland to change the deadline for fully funding its Police and Fire Retirement Plan to a new financially responsible deadline?

  • The city's web site states that the registrar of voters will begin opening and counting ballots on November 4; ballots must be received by November 15. Voters may register to vote in this election through October 31.
    Additional topics the speakers will cover include information related to the state election next June, specifically the new top two primary system, and how redistricting will affect Oakland.
