Welcome to the
2009 Rockridge Kitchen Tour
Sunday, September 20
12:30 – 5:30 p.m.

The 8th biennial Rockridge Kitchen Tour
is the one you do not want to miss!

As Rockridge continues to set the bar for diverse, walkable and sustainable neighborhoods in the Bay Area and beyond, Rockridge is also developing a reputation as a green community. To celebrate, the Rockridge Community Planning Council (RCPC) is proud to offer an enhanced kitchen tour experience for the eminently affordable regular tour-ticket price. This year, in addition to eight exquisitely remodeled kitchens, we also present a full home tour of the Margarido House, the first new home in the United States to be both LEED-H certified and Greenpoint rated.

Enjoy a green masterpiece at Margarido House

The recipient of regional, national and international acclaim, the Margarido House represents an extraordinary collaboration of builders, vendors and community members whose goal of exquisite design and top-to-bottom green strategy has been well accomplished. Margarido House features solar electric power and solar thermal heating, on-site rainwater reclamation, locally sourced and recycled building materials, rooftop garden and much more.

Find inspiration for kitchen and home enthusiasts

In close proximity to Margarido House, the other eight kitchens featured on the tour are stunning examples of both modern innovation and classic design. Admire flawless Craftsman detailing on Manila Avenue. On Rockridge Boulevard, enjoy a thoroughly modern space with many of today’s most popular amenities, including a spacious, sunny kitchen-adjacent family room, with ample storage solutions. If you’re looking for exciting ideas for your own kitchen remodel look no further.

Presale tickets are available now for $30.
Tickets sold after September 18 will be $40.

Savor the Premium Experience:
An Evening at Margarido House

This year, we also invite you to delight in an evening at the Margarido House. For the Premium Ticket price of $60, you will experience not only the complete Sunday, September 20 tour, but you will also be treated to a cocktail reception at the Margarido House on the evening of September 17, from 5-8 p.m. Stroll the rooftop garden and gaze at the San Francisco skyline at sunset, peruse the gracious 4,000+ square foot home, and enjoy a bite and a drink in good company. If you purchase a premium ticket, you will receive notification of the address of the Margarido house by e-mail.

Volunteering as a Docent

Be a Tour Docent and have a personal tour! Docents are assigned to one house; on the day of the tour they rotate among three posts in their assigned house. They greet guests at the door, supply helpful background information about the kitchen and help with food service. Docents are treated to a personal orientation by homeowners on a pre-tour visit of three homes two weeks prior to the tour. All docents receive a ticket to visit the kitchens before or after their shifts. Shifts are 2-3/4 hours long. To volunteer as a docent, call Nancy Sale at 655-4625.

Brochure Advertising

Because many tour participants are soon-to-be kitchen remodelers, the tour brochure offers ideal exposure for businesses related to kitchen remodeling and home sales. We welcome your enquiries about purchasing ad space which must be reserved by July 21. Call Jo Ellis at 653-3210 after noon.

About RCPC

The Rockridge Community Planning Council has produced the kitchen tour since 1995. RCPC has served the Rockridge community for over 25 years. A Board of 14 directors is elected by the Rockridge community annually. We monitor commercial and residential planning and zoning, develop strategies to address issues of public safety, crime and traffic, provide leadership in the creation of new open spaces, support our local schools and publish The Rockridge News. Our General Meetings, open to the public, present programs and panels of interest to the Rockridge community.

Community meetings are held the third Thursday of each month, except August and December, in the Rockridge Library, 5366 College Avenue, at 7:30 p.m.

The kitchen tour is RCPC’s major fund-raising event, which allows the council to support and fund local projects such as the Rockridge-Temescal Greenbelt ("FROG Park"), Rockridge Library programs and equipment replacement, grants to the local public schools, and public art projects.
